Todd’s Audiophile Journey:
‘My audiophile journey started years ago in college at University of Miami. I bought my first good system when I was a junior and it consisted of KEF 102/2’s and Adcom separates. I loved that system and kept it for many years, especially the KEFs. I eventually tried tubes in my system and then had to have them. I bought a Conrad Johnson CAV50 integrated tube amp and my system was definitely taken to a new level of realism.
After finally selling the KEFs a couple years ago and the CJ a few years before that, I set out to put together a whole new system on a budget. It started with Tekton Lore Reference speakers driven by a Silk Audio (Yaqin) tube integrated with a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon DC and a Musical Fidelity A3.5 as the sources. I was very happy with that system, especially for the price, but as always the upgrade bug bit. A few upgrades/changes later, my current system consists of the following:
- Gallo CL3 speakers
- Audiozen Alchemy hybrid integrated
- Pro-ject Debut Carbon DC with 2M Blue
- Pro-ject Tube Box S
- Pro-ject DAC Box RS
- SOTM SMS200 streamer
- Musical Fidelity A3.5 CDP
It’s a very musically satisfying system now that I was able to still put together on a budget and I’m very happy with it. Being a professional musician, recording artist and Associate Professor of Jazz Saxophone at University of North Florida, music playback is a big part of my life at home and at work. My students and I are regularly transcribing complicated musical information from recordings and having an all-in-one high-resolution playback system that I can use at work and home will be invaluable. When I saw that Phil Jones had designed just such a system with the new Airpulse Model 1, I knew it would be perfect for my needs. I’m extremely excited about winning the sweepstakes and can’t wait to hear these amazing speakers.”
All of us share Todd’s joy and wish him all the best in his new listening experience, we think the Model One is the future of audio for audiophiles everywhere.
