We are so pleased to announce that well-known audiophile Kemper Holt has been selected as the winner of the Essence / XPC Summer 2018 Sweepstakes! He’s won the XPC P80AV-1100, a robust power conditioning AC Line Noise Filter / Voltage Regulator with Battery Back-up to protect his equipment during utility power failures, a retail value of $819. XPC is well known for its complete line of award winning power management products.
Residual line noise will be virtually eliminated with a -45 dB noise filter and voltage is tightly regulated to 120v. Whenever a power failure hits Kemper’s neighborhood, his system will continue to operate with “virtually zero” (.2ms) transfer time to the battery, avoiding the 15 minute reboot time common to cable / wifi systems with no battery back-up. When the utility power is restored, the P80 will protect his electronics from the 180v in-rush current, the #1 cause of component failure. Its not the shut-downs that kill, it’s the restoration of power at 150% of nominal that does the damage, a high voltage spike. The system continues to receive battery power until the line voltage meets the 120v spec. The battery back-up can also be used in emergencies to recharge portables like a smartphone. Peace of mind.
Kemper’s audiophile journey started when he was young, like most of us. He’s devoted his whole life to the pursuit of high fidelity, he shares his story with us here:
“My initials are KLH, and I knew I was an audiophile when my lawn mowing profits went for a pair of KLH 5s, AR integrated, Dual 1219, and an open reel tape deck. I have had the pleasure of working in a High End audio salon, Excalibur Audio in Olde Towne Alexandria, VA where my exposure to great products was fun but not nearly as exciting as meeting industry pioneers like Jason Bloom, Lew Johnson & Bill Conrad, Dan D’Agostino, Arnie Nudell and Anthony Cordesman.
Kit that moved me along the way includes, Spica TC-50, Infinity IRS V and RS-1B, Dayton-Wright electrostatics, ML CLS and Monoliths, Sound Lab R-1 and R2 and A-1, Apogee Full Range, Diva, and Duetta Signatures, DQ-10, Double (stacked) Lg Advents, Quad 57, Fulton J, Krell, c-j, Threshold, Meitner, Electrocompaniet, Theta Digital, SOTA, VPI, The Arm, Alphason, SME, Koetsu, Grado, Kiseiki, Maplenoll air bearing TT, and Souther linear tonearm, all pre 2000.
I’ve been lucky enough to have covered shows for EnjoyTheMusic and currently do reviews and show reporting for AVShowrooms. My current system includes Exogal Comet & Ion combination, NuPrime DAC 9, Odyssey Kismet monos, GT Audio Works GTA 2.5 speakers (
neodymium magnetic planars), Tekton Double Impacts, Endeavor E-3 Mk IIs, cables from Mapleshade, Audience, Mad Scientist, and Anticables, Balanced Power E=Q 300, and HFTs from Synergistic Research. My dedicated server is holding 10 TBs of music, but I use some old favorites for comparing gear, and Classic Rock, Jazz, and some Classical music for enjoyment. I’m excited to have won this power conditioner, it will provide me with peace of mind to know my system will be protected from the ups and downs of utility power including black-outs”.
