Essence CEO Bob Rapoport announced today that Canadian audiophile guru David Susilo has won the Essence Summer 2019 Sweepstakes for a pair of highly acclaimed Acoustic Energy AE300 Bookshelf / Stand-Mount speakers, a $750 value! Congratulations to David and better luck next time to all that entered but didnt win.
The winner always shares their personal audiophile journey with us, read about David’s below. You might recognize yourself, as I like to say, we are all on the same journey.
“My Audiophile Journey;
First, this is the first time I’ve ever won anything and I’m so excited its the AE300 speakers, AE has always been a favorite brand of mine since the legendary AE-1 came out. Thanks to Bob at Essence for picking me the winner! Since 1978 I have been experimenting and playing with various audio video equipment owned by both my parents and my grandfather.
The initial system was a very basic Sony cassette deck, Peerless speakers and a Sansui integrated amp. Since then I have explored various stereo brands including JVC, Dahlquist, Quad, AIWA, and Pioneer amongst many others. Loving the audio system and added that with my background education in music, I continue on to music production which then followed by, of course, music reproduction.
My current system is designed towards home theatre applications which includes Pioneer SC-LX704 (used in pre-pro mode), vintage Marantz MA500 THX monoblocks (x5), System Audio Aura 30 speakers, PSB Image C centre, and PSB Subseries 450 as subwoofer. I use Panasonic UB9000 as a player to play my CD, Bluray Audio, Bluray and UHD bluray discs.
For my display I’ve just upgraded my TV to Panasonic 65GZ2000 and for the projector I use JVC RS2000 with Stewart Filmscreen StudioTek 130 G3 scope aspect ratio.
Since then, my goal in music listening have always been to reproduce music as closely as possible to the sound of music I produced in my recording studio. This habit continues on to my selection of equipment to this very day. To put it simply, I want to have an accurate music reproduction whenever possible to the point that I studied music production and psychoacoustics at university level, and took courses and got myself certified by THX, HAA and – for video – ISF.”
