The heart of the S2000 Pro speaker is its woofer / mid-range driver, it covers most of the audible range so its design is critical. The S2000 Pro woofer is 5.5″, inspired by legendary speaker designer Phil Jones, featuring a hard-anodized aluminum cone with an over-sized, under-hung voice-coil and powerful neodymium magnet. The combination of these design elements delivers a stunning clarity of sound with audibly lower distortion than its competitors, with no stress as the volume is increased. Edifier makes these in-house, using the best lab equipment to judge their performance, including the largest anechoic chamber in the world and analysis by a German-made KLIPPEL diagnostic device.
The high frequencies are reproduced by a fast, new, planar diaphragm tweeter. Today’s best hi res audio content contains extended high frequencies, up to 192K bandwidth. Rich, smooth, and detailed, with great directionality to the listening position, minimizing reflections that can interfere with the stereo image, these tweeters provide the localization cues that enable our auditory system to precisely locate voices and instruments in the space between the speakers, delivering concert-like realism, and able to keep up with the demands of today’s extended high frequency content.
DSP-Based Electronic Crossover and Dynamic Management
The S2000 Pro uses an application of new electro-acoustic technology. Taking advantage of two Texas Instruments digital processing DSP chips, TLV320AIC3254, the S2000 Pro uses its miniDSP function to deliver incredibly loud and tight bass response. Independent of the electronic crossover and dynamic management, the S2000 Pro offers precise control of frequency allocation.
Digital-to-Analog and Analog-to-Digital Converter Signal
The S2000 Pro’s on-board DAC (digital-to-analog converter) and ADC (analog-to-digital converter) has a built-in Burr-Brown PCM1802 by Texas Instrument. The Burr-Brown DAC and ADC use audio signaling that reaches towards -105 dB signal to noise ratio (SNR). The analog input signal via RCA or XLR uses traditional HiFi methods that are recognized by WIMA capacitors. This in turn ensures lower signal loss. As for optical and coaxial inputs, the interface chip is the PCM9211 by Burr-Brown, it supports native 24-bit / 216K high res audio input signal beautifully, delivering a rich audio banquet for your listening pleasure. The quality of these electronics is a huge factor in the quality of the sound, the price of the highest performance has come down to a point where everybody can afford it.
Adjustable Treble, Bass, and Volume Controls
Located on the rear panel of the S2000 Pro speakers are three knobs for manually adjusting the treble, bass, and volume; a fully featured set of manual controls with analog and digital inputs. The master volume knob has precision adjustment and memory volume control set above a certain volume level. RCA inputs are available for both RCA, XLR, and AUX connections. Experience high definition audio through either the optical or coaxial connection. XLR inputs allow you to connect the S2000 Pro to a professional mixer for those more advanced in audio technology. Full Digital Amplifier Powered Speaker
The S2000 Pro uses three professional Class D digital amplifier chips for producing the best sound in its class. The TAS5754 from Texas Instruments run independently from each other ensuring they do not cause interference while running their respective output. The first chip is in control of treble and bass, respectively driving both speakers. The second chip runs strictly the woofers of the S2000 Pro using a PBTL (parallel to the bridge) connection which helps build power reserves. The last TAS5754 is dedicated to the amplifier output frequency of 768 KHz. In combination, this design leads to the lowest noise and distortion specs ever for an active speaker system in this price class.
