It is with great pleasure that I announce the winner of the Essence / Core Power Technologies Fall 2016 Sweepstakes is Joel Savitz from Florida. He won the Equi=Core 300 Fully Balanced AC Power Source that sells for $799. Congratulations to Joel and thanks to all who entered, good luck next time!
I ask our contest winners to share their “audiophile journey” with us, our love of music and the gear uniquely connects us beyond borders worldwide. We all have our own unique story about the first great system we ever heard and how we caught the audiophile bug and turned it into a lifelong hobby. Here then is Joel’s;
“I was born in Brooklyn, NY and ever since I was young, I collected vinyl LP’s first of cast albums then soundtrack scores, rock and classical music. I grew up near a Webcor stereo. After visiting a friend, I listened to his component system with a turntable, Scott amp and an AR2A speaker. It was a defining moment of my life.
I decided that I would have get a better system. Being in high school, I convinced my father that if I could work and save the money I could buy a system. I worked as waiter and busboy in the NY State mountains and saved enough for the purchase. I bought a Rekokut Turntable, a pair of AR-2a speakers and a Scott amp. We went to lower Manhattan in HiFi district which later became the site of World Trade Centers.
Since that time, I continued to upgrade my system over the years. I eventually bought a Thorens MK 126 turntable, Mark Levinson preamp #28 , A Meridian DAC and Audio Research Amp. I also purchased a Hafler Amp, Bryston preamp and when Quad (4 channel) was the in thing, a CD 4 demodulator,and SQ full logic decoder with a Sansui 4 channel QS decoder.
I have all of these pieces of equipment which are in perfect condition. With the advent of surround sound for video and music, I added an Oppo 93 Blu Ray-CD player. However, no one in my family of 2 daughters and my wife could figure out how to use the components. As a result, I purchased a Yamaha 3040 receiver. My speakers are very special-Oracle Helicon Towers. I upgraded the woofers when the Florida humidity ruined the original ones. I contacted company in Quebec and got 2 new woofers which I installed with a friend after getting support on the installation.
In addition to the above equipment, I have purchased close to 6000 LP’s and 45’s over the years, 1000 DVD’s and Blu Rays, 2000 CD’s. I also own 2 Pioneer Laserdisc players which still work and have a few hundred Laserdiscs. I am addicted to good sound and am thrilled to have won this month’s prize.”
Joel will probably set up the Audio Research / Mark Levinson combo with the Equi=Core and report back later with his thoughts on how Balanced Power impacted his listening experience. Stay tuned. 🙂
